John earned his Bachelor of Music Performance at Sam Houston State University in 1976. He served in several orchestras: Principal trumpet, Brazos Symphony, 1983 – present; Contract trumpet, Waco Symphony (2001 – present); Assistant principal trumpet, Richardson Symphony, 1978-1981; Principal trumpet, Garland Symphony, 1979-1981; University of North Texas Symphony, 1978-1979; and Apprentice to the Principal trumpet, Austin Symphony, 1963-1964. He has played in the Brazos Brass Quintet since 1985, and has had free-lance commercial experience in Houston, New York and Dallas since 1966. He was winner of the Midland-Odessa Young Artists Competition in 1967; and TMEA All-State Band in 1964. McSpadden is a member of the following professional organizations: Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters association, and American Federation of Musicians.
Mr. McSpadden teaches grade 6 – 12.

A 2000 Graduate of West Texas A&M University – Bachelors in Music Education. 20 Hours of Post -Graduate work at WTAMU. Band Director for 7 years. Now staying at home with children. Has taught private lessons on all Brass Instruments for 13 years. Past lesson students have been selected as members of All-Region Bands, as well as the Texas All-State Band. Students have also achieved high levels of performance on Solos for UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest.
Brennan Lamont

Brennan is a member of the freshman class of 2014 at Sam Houston State University majoring in music education with a jazz emphasis. He is a former member of the A&M Consolidated Band program where he was a four year member of both the Wind Ensemble and the Jazz Band. While at AMCHS, Brennan was a two time TMEA All State Band member, qualifying once in the Symphonic Band and once in the Jazz Ensemble. Brennan was also a two time member of the All Area Symphonic Orchestra for Region 8. He also enjoyed playing in the AMCHS Mariachi Band.
In addition to playing for the school, Brennan has been a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Youth Band and Brass Ensembles since middle school. Brennan also plays in the orchestra of the Theatre Company in Bryan, TX.
Brennan has studied under John McSpadden for the past 6 years. In the summer, Brennan has attended the WTAMU band camp giving him the opportunity to work with Dr. William Takacs as well as Dr. Gary Garner and Don LeFevre. He has also attended the jazz improv camp at SHSU under Aric Schneller. Brennan will be joining the SHSU trumpet studio under the direction of Randy Adams in the fall of 2010.
