French Horn

Madelyn McBrayer

Hello! My name is Madelyn McBrayer. I was born in Dallas, TX and  started my music career by taking piano lessons in the 2nd grade. I  played piano competitively though high school earning awards and  gaining experience in different areas of music theory.I began playing horn in the 6th grade, under the instruction of Karen  Houghton. I achieved all 1st ratings in both regional and state solo  competitions, made the All State Philharmonic Orchestra, and won  several outstanding soloist awards.  I have also been offered the  opportunity to participate as a guest in a concert with the Dallas  Wind Symphony. Lastly, I have also performed with the Texas A&M Wind  Symphony, including a performance at Carnegie Hall in New York.

My musical philosophy encompasses my belief that fundamentals are one  of the most important parts of musical education. I play several other  instruments as well and have sang professionally. I apply what I know  about music fundamentals, especially music theory, to allow me to  succeed in these areas. I believe that when we aren’t solely focused  on figuring out notes and rhythms, we can then focus on making those  notes and rhythms beautiful and unique moments in music. Middle school  is one of the most opportune times to learn these fundamentals, and my  intentions are to teach these basics so that these students will be  able to take the next steps in their musical career.
